Week 4: The Lord of Our Righteousness
July 16 & 19, 2026
Jehovah-Tsidkenu - The Lord Is Our Righteousness
We were created for righteousness, and sin shattered it.
What are your fig leaves?
Jeremiah was promising a King whose righteousness would become our righteousness.
God didn’t just erase our debt… He credited Jesus’ perfect life to our accounts.
We can stop trying to impress God.
Stop living FOR God’s acceptance and start living FROM God’s acceptance.
When we put our faith in Jesus, God doesn’t just forgive our sins, but He unites us with His Son.
[d]Group Questions
Read Philippians 3:4–9. Paul had one of the most impressive spiritual résumés imaginable, yet he called it all “garbage” compared to Christ. What are some modern “résumés” Christians are tempted to trust instead of Christ’s righteousness? How does Paul’s testimony challenge us?
Read 2 Corinthians 5:21 and Romans 8:1. What do these passages teach about what happened to us when we trusted Christ? How should these truths change the way we respond after we sin or fail?
Read Ephesians 2:8–10. According to these verses, what is the relationship between grace, faith, and good works? How can we tell the difference between obeying to earn God’s acceptance and obeying because we already have it?
Prayer Prompt
Spend a few moments silently asking the Holy Spirit to reveal any “fig leaves” or “résumés” you’ve been relying on for your identity or acceptance.
Thank Jesus specifically for becoming your righteousness, confess any areas where you’ve been striving instead of resting in His finished work, and ask God to help you live this week from His acceptance rather than for His acceptance. Pray that your obedience would flow out of gratitude instead of guilt.
