  • This name shows us no battle is beyond God's power, and no burden is beneath His attention.

  • Peace is found in the presence of the Protector.

  • Our God is a God of presence and a God of action.

  • When God becomes your Protector, you no longer have to spend your life protecting yourself. You are now called to protect and defend others.

  • What our world needs right now is not our arguments, but our actions.

[d]Group Questions

  1. Read Psalm 46 together.

  2. Hannah, David, and Isaiah all faced different kinds of battles (personal pain, an overwhelming enemy, and fear of an unknown calling). Which battle do you relate to most right now, and what does that reveal about what you are currently facing?

  3. The sermon said, “When God becomes your Protector, you no longer have to spend your life protecting yourself.” In what area of your life are you still trying to protect yourself instead of trusting God with it? (Examples: reputation, control, finances, parenting, marriage, future, etc.)

  4. What keeps you from being still before God? What fear, burden, or situation makes it difficult for you to trust that He is your fortress?

  5. How might God be calling you to become a protector for someone else this week? Is there a person who needs your encouragement, advocacy, generosity, presence, or help right now?

Prayer Prompt

Practice being still. Sit quietly before the Lord for a minute and then have someone in the group close out by praying Psalm 41 over everyone. Not just reading, but praying it over everyone.
