[d]Group Questions
Read Genesis 1:1; 1:26-26, and 2:4 together. Also read John 1:1-5, 14.
How does seeing God as Elohim, the all-powerful Creator, challenge or expand your view of Him?
The sermon described idols as created things which we ask to do what only God can do. What is something in your life that you are most tempted to look to for security, significance, peace, or identity instead of God?
Where in your life are you currently feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or out of control? How does the truth that Elohim created and sustains the universe effortlessly change the way you can respond to that situation?
Genesis teaches that every person is made in the image of God. Is there a person or group of people you struggle to value, love, or see the way God does? How would remembering they bear the image of Elohim change your attitude or actions toward them?
Prayer Prompt
What is one area of your life that you need to freshly surrender to Yahweh Elohim this week, trusting that the God who created everything also loves you personally? Ask the group to pray for you in this area.
