Week 1: Time Wealth
August 6 & 9, 2026
God wants to bless you.
The greatest blessing God gives is time.
Time doesn't need management, our hearts need management.
How we spend our time is the story of our life.
We need to make the shift from the philosophy of managing our time well to living life wisely.
1) We are chronically hurried.
"Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day."
Dallas Willard
2) We confuse activity with significance.
“Embrace the discomfort of knowing you’ll never get it all done—it’s the price of living a full life.... Convenience culture seduces us into imagining that we might find room for everything important by eliminating only life’s tedious tasks. But it’s a lie. You have to choose a few things, sacrifice everything else, and deal with the inevitable sense of loss that results.”
Oliver Burkeman, 4,000 Weeks
3) We have no margin
When every minute belongs to us, none of it belongs to God.
"People today have all the means to live but no meaning to live for"
Viktor Frankl
We aren't exhausted because we have too little time—we're exhausted because we've forgotten what time is for.
[d]Group Questions
Read Ecclesiastes 3:1-13 together as a group.
Which of these "aches of time" do you struggle with the most: hurry, busyness, or having no margin? Why?
If someone looked at your calendar from the past month, what would they say is most important to you? Would you agree with that?
Ecclesiastes says God has "placed eternity in our hearts." What is one temporary thing you've been chasing that may be distracting you from what has eternal value?
Read Ephesians 5:15-17. Jesus was never hurried, even though He always had important things to do. What is one change you could make this week to slow down and be more present with God or the people around you?
What's one specific commitment you can make this week to steward your time differently—something you will say "yes" to or something you need to say "no" to? Plan to share next week whether you followed through!
Prayer Prompt
Have everyone sit in silence for a minute. Then pray and ask the Lord to bring the quiet and hard things of our heart to the front. Ask him for strength not to fall for the distraction of busyness and to see the deep parts of our hearts.
