Week 2: Who Do You Say I Am?
August 14 & 17
Jesus doesn’t heal us to make us comfortable…He heals us to call us deeper.
Our faith is a gift.
The “rock” is the truth that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the living God.
Saying Jesus is Lord is saying yes to the mission…yes to submitting to His authority…and yes to the gospel.
The difference between the wise and foolish builder was not in hearing but in obeying.
Jesus is not just the Savior who picks us up…He is the King who desires our obedience.
[d]Group questions
Read Matthew 16:13-19 and Luke 6:46-49 as a group.
Last week’s question was “Do you want to get well?” and this week’s was “Who do you say I am?” How do you see those two invitations working together in your own walk with Jesus?
In Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked His disciples to declare who He was in the midst of idols and false hope. What “modern idols” surround you, and how does confessing Jesus as Lord challenge those?
Jesus said, “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord’ and not do what I say?” What are some areas where it’s hardest for you to obey Him, and what helps you take the next step in obedience?
Baptism in the New Testament was an immediate step of obedience after believing. How does that challenge the way we sometimes delay or overcomplicate obedience today? Is baptism a step you need to take?
What would it look like for you this week to live as if “Jesus is Lord” in both word and action, not just in belief?
