Week 3: Radical Generosity
October 23 & 26
You can’t be selfless if you’re not surrendered, and you can’t be surrendered if you’re not smart
You can obey all the rules and still miss relationship with Jesus
Jesus isn’t condemning wealth, but exposing self-sufficiency
She cast in all that she had…her whole life
In the Kingdom of Heaven’s economy, real treasure is found in trust
If Jesus is Lord, money is a tool… if money is lord, Jesus becomes a threat
[d]Group questions
Read Mark 10:17-27 and Mark 12:41-44
Two people, same message, different response. In the stories of the rich young ruler and the widow, both heard truth from Jesus — yet one walked away sad and the other walked away free. What do you think made the difference in how they responded?
The rich young ruler didn’t just have many possessions — his possessions had him. What are some modern “possessions” (not just money) that can hold us back from full surrender to Jesus?
The widow gave her entire livelihood — not as a transaction, but as an act of worship. How can we begin to see generosity, tithing, or even budgeting as spiritual practices that draw us closer to God?
Shannon said, “It’s not that wealth is evil, but it can numb your need for God.” When has comfort or control in your life made it harder to depend on Him? What helped you loosen your grip and trust again?
Prayer Prompts
Pray for generosity. “Jesus, make my heart like Yours — selfless, surrendered, and willing to give out of love, not obligation. Use my life to show others the beauty of radical generosity.”
