Week 2: Trusting God
October 16 & 19
You can be smart and not surrendered.
What looks like a financial problem is usually a heart problem underneath.
Peace doesn’t come from control…peace comes from surrendering control.
Jesus is against anything that replaces trust in Him.
When you trust God with the first part of your finances, you begin to see His hand in every part of your life.
Money reveals what we really trust.
3 simple challenges this week:
Remember who owns it all.
Choose trust over control.
Invite God into your finances.
[d]Group questions
Read Luke 12:13-21 as a group.
Heart Check: Jesus didn’t address the man’s financial dispute. He addressed his heart. What does that teach us about the connection between money and spiritual health?
The Illusion of Control: In what ways do we, like the rich man in the parable, try to find peace through control rather than surrender? How has that worked (or not worked) in your life?
Trust vs. Fear: What are some fears that make it difficult to fully trust God with your finances? What’s one small step of surrender you could take this week?
Freedom: When Shannon said, “Freedom is when generosity stops feeling like loss and starts feeling like worship,” what does that look like practically?
Prayer Prompt
Prayer of Surrender:
Ask the Lord to show where money—or anything else—has taken His place in your group’s hearts. Ask for help to surrender every area of your lives, especially in finances.Prayer for Trust and Freedom:
Ask the Lord to teach your group to choose trust over control. Ask Him to help your group experience the freedom that comes when you let go and remember that everything belongs to Him.
