Week 1: Good Things

October 30 & November 1

  • Romans 5:6-11

  • James 1:17 NLT

  • James 1:17 ESV

  • We worship a good God who gives good things.

  • The Ultimate Gift

  • Romans 5:6

  • "The strongest men in life know how weak they truly are."

  • Romans 5:7-8

  • The core message of the Gospel is not that you need to get right with God, but that Jesus made you right before God.

  • For men: "Do I have what it takes?"

  • For women: "Am I worthy of love?"

  • The gospel is not about performance; it is about grace.

  • “The gospel says you are simultaneously more sinful and flawed than you ever dared believe, yet more loved and accepted than you ever dared hope.” - Tim Keller

  • Romans 5:9-11

  • The gospel is not about following rules; it is about relationship.

  • The ultimate gift God gives us is life in Him.

  • John 10:10

  • Religion says, ‘I messed up, my dad is going to kill me.’ The Gospel says, ‘I messed up, I need to call my dad.’”

  • The Good News of Jesus is not just good news for later; it is good for you right now.

[d]Group questions

  1. Read Romans 5:6-11 and John 10:10 together.

  2. Why do you think it’s so hard for us—especially in our culture—to admit we’re helpless or need help?

  3. How have you seen God show up when you finally admitted you couldn’t do it on your own?

  4. What are some ways people (even in the church) try to earn God’s love instead of receiving it?

  5. How can we move from just “believing in Jesus” to living in a relationship with Him?

  6. What do you think it means to experience abundant life right now, not just eternal life later, and what might be keeping you from fully stepping into that abundant life today?

Prayer Prompt

We need to practice the idea of grounding our hearts in the goodness of who God is. Share in the group struggles and ask the Lord in his Goodness to step into those situations or pray for strength to hold onto God's promise of abudant life even in hardship
