Week 3: Calling

April 3 & 6

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

  • Micah 6:8

  • God’s calling on your life is not a career… but a surrendered heart

  • 1 Peter 2:9

  • We are not called to something, but called to someone

  • Colossians 3:23

  • Sometimes what we call a calling is actually an addiction

  • Until Christ is enough, our work will always be an idol

  • John 4:31-43

  • Listening to and obeying God’s voice should be what fills me up

  • Your calling is not some future destination… so be faithful where you are today

  • Daily Prayer for This Week: God, today I will work as if I am working for You. Open my eyes to how I can glorify you in my work.

[d]Group questions

  1. As a group, read 1 Thess. 5:16-18. How does understanding God’s will as a surrendered heart rather than a specific career change the way you view your own work or responsibilities?

  2. Have you ever found yourself chasing achievements or success in a way that felt more like an addiction than a calling? How can you shift your focus back to serving Christ in your work?

  3. What would it look like for you to “work as if you are working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23) in your current job, home life, or season of life?

  4. Can you think of a time when hard work left you feeling fulfilled rather than drained? What made that experience different?

  5. This week’s challenge is to pray: “God, today I will work as if I am working for You. Open my eyes to how I can glorify you in my work.” How might praying this daily change your perspective on your work and responsibilities?
