Week 1: Change of Perspective
January 29 & February 1
David was not any more seen by God in the moment he was anointed…he just became more aware of it.
The gap between promise and fulfillment is where our faith gets tested.
Just because God hears us, does not mean He will answer the way we want.
The real question isn’t whether God hears us…but whether you can trust Him when His answer doesn’t match your expectations.
Sometimes God answers with “yes”…sometimes “no”…and sometimes He says “wait.”
Our goal as God’s children is simply to try to align our hearts with our Father’s heart.
3 Prayer Challenges:
Stop judging God’s presence by your timeline.
Stop treating prayer like a transaction.
Keep praying.
[d]Group Questions
Read Psalm 18:4-6 and 1 John 5:13-15 together as a group.
David often lived in the space between promise and fulfillment. What’s a situation in your life that feels like “God promised…but nothing’s happening”? How has that “gap” tested your faith or shaped you?
When prayers feel unanswered, we often assume something personal. Do you tend to think “God is absent”, “God is upset with me”, “I did something wrong”, or “God must not care”? What does Psalm 18 challenge about those assumptions?
Which answer is hardest for you to trust: Yes, No, or Wait? Why do you think that answer feels so difficult for you?
It was said: “Prayer is not about control…prayer is about trust and submission.” How would your prayers change if prayer was more about trust than control? What’s one practical way you can pray more surrendered this week?
Prayer Prompt
“Father, we come to You as children—not performers. For every place in us that feels distressed, disappointed, or tired, remind us that You hear us. Give us faith to trust You in the gap, surrender our timeline to Your will, and keep praying with confidence that Your ‘yes,’ ‘no,’ or ‘wait’ is still love.”
