May 14 & 17, 2026
Judgment announced ahead of time is actually mercy.
We can know true things about God and still live like they are not true.

Sin makes us spiritually sleepy.
We can say true things about God while living in resistance to God.
God pursues us.
[d]Group Questions
Read Jonah 1 together as a group.
Jonah knew the right things about God, but still resisted Him when God’s will confronted his comfort. Where do you see that same tension in your own life right now? Is there an area where you know what God is asking of you, but you’re struggling to surrender?
The sermon emphasized that God’s warnings are often invitations to mercy. Can you think of a “storm,” interruption, conviction, or difficult season in your life that you later realized was actually God pursuing or rescuing you?
Jonah struggled with God showing mercy to people he believed didn’t deserve it. Why do you think it’s so difficult for us to want grace for our enemies or for people who have deeply hurt us? What does Jesus teach us about responding differently?
The pagan sailors in Jonah 1 appeared more spiritually responsive than Jonah himself. Why is it possible for religious people to become spiritually asleep? What are some practical ways we can stay sensitive and responsive to God’s voice?
Prayer Prompt
Spend time praying honestly about where you may be resisting God right now. Ask Him to soften your heart, wake you up spiritually, and help you trust that His pursuit of you is rooted in mercy, not condemnation.
