June 5 & 8
“We become what we give our attention to, for better or worse.” - John Mark Comer
“Our brains renew themselves throughout life to an extent previously thought not possible.” - Dr. Michael Gazzaniga (SAGE Center for the Study of the Mind)
Romans 12:2 (NIV)
Romans 12:2 (NLT)
Worshipping God with your mind means intentionally aligning your thoughts with His truths
What you fix your thoughts on is what you are bowing your life towards
How do we change the way we think?
Replace lies with truth
2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)
Titus 3:5-6 (NIV)
The Holy Spirit convicts, corrects, teaches, and guides our minds into alignment with the mind of Christ
Practice mental sabbath
We must learn to abide in Christ
We become rooted by intentionality
We have to pay attention to what we feed our mind
Thought audit…
Take the time to ask, “Is what I’m filling my mind with making me more like Christ or more like the world?”
“What thoughts dominated my mind today?”
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans 12:2)
“…through the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5)
“…learning to think with the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:16)
[d]Group questions
Read Romans 12:2; Titus 3:5; and 1 Corinthians 2:16
What tends to dominate your thought life on a daily basis? How have those thoughts shaped the way you see God, yourself, or others?
What lies have you believed about yourself or your circumstances, and what truth from Scripture do you need to replace them with? (Example: “I’ll never change” vs. Romans 8:11)
When and how do you tend to mentally “check out” or distract yourself? How could you start practicing a “mental sabbath” this week?
Think about your media intake—social media, shows, podcasts, etc. What’s one small but specific step you could take to feed your mind something more life-giving?
What would it look like to intentionally invite the Holy Spirit to renew your mind each day? Do you have any rhythms or reminders that help with that—or is that something new you’d like to try?
